Nicolas Berger, PH.D.
Dr Nicolas Berger leads the Nutrition and Physical Activity Unit at Sciensano, Belgium’s national institute for public health. His team works to generate policy-relevant insights on nutrition, physical activity, obesity, and their underlying determinants.
Dr Berger oversees major national data collection efforts, including the Belgian Food Consumption Survey and the Belgian Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Sleep (BELPASS) Study, both of which play a critical role in monitoring population health and informing public health strategies.
He also serves as Director of Sciensano’s Expertise Center in Health Promotion for the Walloon Region, where he provides scientific support on nutrition and physical activity for the Walloon Health Promotion Plan.
Since 2024, Dr Berger has been a guest lecturer at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). He was previously an (Honorary) Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), where he began his academic journey in 2014 with a PhD in Social Epidemiology.
