Malta Releases Their First Report Card!

This marks an exciting milestone as Malta participates in the Global Matrix for the first time, releasing its inaugural Report Card as part of the Global Matrix 5.0 initiative. The Report Card evaluated Global Matrix 5.0 indicators related to physical activity and health among Maltese children and adolescents.

Overall Physical Activity was graded an F, reflecting that only 16% of children and adolescents met the benchmark for recommended physical activity. The Report Card identified differences across population groups, with 21% of boys aged 11-15 years meeting the daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) recommendation compared with 11% of girls, while 26% of adolescents from high-affluence households met the target compared with 17% from low-affluence households.

The Report Card also highlights important gaps in national surveillance. Although Global Matrix 5.0 assesses children and adolescents with disabilities (CAWD) across all indicators, Malta lacked sufficient disaggregated data to assess CAWD for most indicators. CAWD-data were available for School, Community and Environment, and Government & Policy, providing insight into inclusion, accessibility, and support for physical activity among CAWD.
