Welcome the new AHKGA North American Representative – Dr. Richard Larouche!

The AHKGA is excited to share that Dr. Richard Larouche has been appointed as the AHKGA North American Representative on the Board of Directors following a formal nomination process!

The North American Representative assists the AHKGA President and Board of Directors by representing the interests and perspectives of the countries and jurisdictions within North America (Canada and the United States). Richard will ensure regional considerations are incorporated into Board discussions, decisions and strategic planning.

Richard is an Associate Professor of Public Health and the founder and director of the Physical Activity, Transport & Health (PATH) research group. He joined the University of Lethbridge in 2017 and currently holds the Board of Governors Research Chair in Physical Activity Epidemiology. He is currently the Principal Investigator of a 17-country study that aims to develop and validate the app-based Global Adolescent and Child Physical Activity Questionnaire (GAC-PAQ). His research interests include active transportation, physical activity, outdoor play, independent mobility, sustainability, and climate change. Richard is the Editor of the book Children’s Active Transportation, published by Elsevier in 2018. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is a co-founder and board member of Outdoor Play Canada. In 2019, he cycled across Canada to raise funds for research on Alzheimer’s disease. Richard is also a competitive long-distance runner, hiker, and advocate for planetary health and social justice.
