Dr. Salomé Aubert Presents at the Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO) 2023 Scientific Conference

AHKGA Vice President Dr. Salomé Aubert has recently made an online guest presentation titled “AHKGA Global Matrices and Report Cards lessons learned from successful countries” at the Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO) 2023 Scientific Conference (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). A summary of the presentation, citation details a link to presentation slides are below. Congratulations, Salomé!

Summary

To achieve a better understanding of the global variation in child and adolescents’ physical activity and associated supports, and to advocate for the promotion of physical activity, the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA) led the development of national Report Cards on physical activity for children and adolescents. Over the past 8 years, more than 70 countries or jurisdictions produced one or several national Report Cards, following a harmonized process that allows for comparability, cross-fertilization of ideas to improve the grades, global networking, and the compilation and aggregation of international data across a series of indicators related to the physical activity of children and adolescents.
In addition to contributing to the surveillance of physical activity-related behaviours, this global initiative allowed us to learn from the most successful countries in terms of:

  • Success and rationales behind high grades
  • Impact on Raising Awareness and Capacity Building in the National and International Scientific Community
  • Impact on Disseminating Information to the General Population and Stakeholders
  • Impact on Powering the Movement to Get Kids Moving Nationally and Internationally

Overall, while it is still too early to observe a positive change in physical activity levels among children and youth, developing a national Report Card has already shown a demonstrable positive impact, and has the potential to initiate a future measurable shift in the physical activity levels of children and to contribute to achieving the 4 strategic objectives of the World Health Organization Global Action Plan as follows: creating an active society, creating active environments, creating active lives, and creating active systems.
